Two goals in five second-half minutes handed Accrington a 3-1 home win over Bristol Rovers.

Stanley opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Shaun Whalley’s cross into the six-yard box was struck home by Everton loanee Isaac Heath for his third goal of the campaign.

Goalmouth action was in short supply until Rovers came close after 37 minutes, Alfie Chang seeing his deflected drive cleared off the line.

The Gas equalised with a wonder goal after 59 minutes when Kamil Conteh got the ball 20 yards out and rifled it into the bottom corner.

Stanley manager John Doolan was shown a yellow card 10 minutes later for protesting a throw-in decision.

The Reds regained the lead after 72 minutes when a Heath corner wasn’t cleared and defender Farrend Rawson forced the ball over the line at the far post.

Five minutes later, Paddy Madden’s shot was saved by Brad Young and Isaac Sinclair stroked home the loose ball to condemn Rovers to a sixth successive league loss.
