Goals in either half from Matty Stevens and Nathan Asiimwe secured AFC Wimbledon’s first league win of the season over 10-man Lincoln.

The visitors played almost three quarters of the game a man short after Adam Jackson was shown a straight red card for a high challenge that caught Stevens in the midriff.

Myles Hippolyte’s whipped corners twice forced Wickens into action early on, setting the tone for a lively Wimbledon start.

Midway through the first half, Jack Moylan curled Lincoln’s first real effort over the bar, before Jackson’s red card left the visitors a man down.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty after Sonny Bradley handled in the box. Stevens converted confidently, sending the keeper the wrong way with a low strike into the bottom right corner.

Before the hour, Moylan was nearly through on goal, but Joe Lewis made a vital interception.

Johnnie Jackson’s side doubled their winning margin late on through a composed finish from Asiimwe, who fired a low shot past George Wickens at the far post.
