Airdrie beat Arbroath on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Gayfield Park to reach the Scottish Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Lewis McGrattan converted debutant Adam Devine’s cross after 22 minutes to put Airdrie ahead, but Aaron Muirhead and Scott Robinson had turned the tie around before the hour mark.

Euan Henderson equalised 11 minutes from time and Arbroath were reduced to 10 in the closing moments after Ross Callachan received a second yellow card.

Airdrie secured a semi-final date against Raith as Henderson, Jamie Barjonas, McGrattan, Chris Mochrie and Cole McKinnon scored in a 5-3 shoot-out win.
