A remarkable 95 combined changes were made by the 11 Premier League managers whose sides took part in the second round of the Carabao Cup this week.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, Burnley manager Scott Parker and Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris rotated every player for their respective matches against Oxford, Derby and Huddersfield.

Here, the PA news agency takes a closer look at the increasing trend for Premier League managers to make wholesale changes for cup competitions.

Man Utd
United boss Ruben Amorim kept just three of Sunday’s starters at Fulham for the trip to League Two minnows Grimsby. Only Amad Diallo, Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha remained as the likes of Andre Onana, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo were given valuable game-time on Wednesday.

Everton
Jack Grealish remained in the Everton line-up for the visit of Mansfield, but Toffees boss David Moyes made six changes from the side which beat Brighton 2-0 on Sunday.

Fulham
Marco Silva made nine changes for Bristol City’s trip to Craven Cottage on Wednesday, with only Ryan Sessegnon and Timothy Castagne remaining from the side which started the 1-1 league draw against Manchester United.

Brighton
The Seagulls went with an entirely different starting line-up at Oxford on Wednesday to the one beaten on Merseyside by Everton. James Milner captained Brighton a little more than four months away from his 40th birthday.

West Ham

Graham Potter made the fewest changes of the week’s action after he introduced just four fresh faces for his side’s match against Wolves. However, he could not stop his slide slipping to a third consecutive defeat in all competitions.

Wolves
Potter’s Wolves counterpart Vitor Pereira introduced eight new players against the Hammers. Jorgen Strand Larsen was among those rested but he came off the bench to score twice in Wolves’ comeback 3-2 win.

Bournemouth
Following their 1-0 Premier League win against Wolves, manager Andoni Iraola made nine changes in all for the visit of Brentford to the Vitality Stadium. And the Cherries slipped to a 2-0 defeat to end their participation in this season’s competition.

Brentford

Bees boss Keith Andrews also made nine changes for his team’s clash with Bournemouth. Fabio Carvalho, an unused substitute in Brentford’s win against Villa, opened the scoring, while Igor Thiago, who dropped to the bench, netted his side’s second.

Burnley
Manager Parker rotated his entire side for the visit of Championship side Derby to Turf Moor. Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring for the hosts after just four minutes before Bobby Clark’s leveller for the Rams. Oliver Sonne struck in stoppage time as Parker’s side followed up their win against Sunderland in the league with progression to third round.

Sunderland
Le Bris was the only other manager to rotate every player but the move backfired after the Black Cats were knocked out by League One Huddersfield following a penalty shoot-out defeat.

Leeds
Leeds manager Daniel Farke kept just two of his starters, Ilia Gruev and Joel Piroe, from their 5-0 defeat to Arsenal. The Premier League side fell behind in the first half and although Jayden Bogle forced penalties, it was the crisis-hit Championship side which progressed following a 3-0 penalty shoot-out win.
