Altrincham returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Gateshead to lift themselves into 10th in the Enterprise National League.

After a fourth defeat in five matches at the weekend they got themselves into a commanding position in the first half with goals from Lewis Banks and Tylor Golden.

Banks swept home a 14th-minute half-volley for his second of the season before Golden found the bottom corner after cutting inside having been released by Jimmy Knowles.

Kahrel Reddin had the chance to put the result beyond doubt on the hour but was denied by goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks, however, Connor Pani’s second yellow card for pulling back James Gale ended the hosts’ hopes of a late comeback.
