Bromley boss Andy Woodman claimed the fact his players were disappointed to draw 2-2 at Notts County proves how far the club has progressed.

Idris Odutayo’s fortuitous late finish preserved the visitors’ unbeaten start to the new season as he deflected Mitch Pinnock’s brilliant attempt past Kelle Roos.

Earlier, the in-form Matthew Dennis had struck twice for Martin Paterson’s men, either side of Ben Thompson’s equaliser.

Woodman, who guided the Londoners out of the National League just over a year ago, said: “I’ve got a group of lads in the dressing room who are a bit upset not to have come away with more.

“But the fact they feel that way after coming to a place like this, it really does speak volumes I believe.

“Notts County is a superb football club. I thought their fans were superb, exactly the same as our supporters.

“We made some changes at the break because, to be honest, I didn’t feel we were quite ourselves to begin with.

“We were much better from that moment on and much more aggressive. We got our reward for sticking in there.

“Idris has been given it. I suspect that’s because he’s been talking. He’ll claim it although Mitch did great.

“To be honest, I don’t care who scores them so long as they go in.

“We changed things about a bit and it’s nice I can do that now. The alterations we made were all rational.”

Dennis’ third strike in as many games came via Roos’ 11th-minute clearance.

Seven minutes later County failed to react when the ball fell at Thompson’s feet which allowed him to power home.

Just past the half-hour mark, Bromley were punished for another lapse in concentration when Dennis met Matt Palmer’s set-piece.

The former Carlisle marksman’s fourth in three outings appeared decisive but, with seven minutes left, Odutayo helped Pinnock’s shot reach the back of the net.

Magpies boss Paterson said: “There’s plenty of positive things to talk about. But we can’t put blinkers on and pretend there aren’t things to work on either.

“I’m not giving a frustrated interview. This is a united front and I’ll always stay unified with the football club.

“It’s small details, really. It’s not always going to be aesthetically pleasing in League Two. We are going to have to do things which aren’t always pretty.

“I’ll accept the positive things I saw. But I’ll also acknowledge the players need help because some of them are running on fumes.

“The transfer window is still open which is another positive and there’s a lot of work going on but it’s complex.

“I’m a positive coach. It’s baby steps but we have to make sure those baby steps become bigger.

“The players, physically, have given everything. There’s improvements but we need a strategy to keep being ourselves when really physical people are coming on.”
