Brandon Njoku’s late equaliser clinched Sutton a 2-2 draw at York in their Enterprise National League opener.

Ollie Pearce converted an 11th-minute penalty for the Minstermen after Tyrese Sinclair had been sent tumbling in the box, but saw a second first-half spot-kick hit a post after Sutton defender Liam Vincent was adjudged to have handled.

York, who lost to Oldham in their play-off semi-final in May, struck the woodwork again in the first half through Alex Newby before David Ogbonna equalised for Sutton when he converted Ashley Nadesan’s cross.

York regained the lead on the hour through defender Callum Howe, who forced the ball home following a corner, but Njoku pounced on Edon Pruti’s flick-on to slide home another equaliser.
