Andy Woodman praised his Bromley side’s resolve as they worked hard to defeat a resolute Harrogate 2-0 and move up to third place in League Two.

Second-half goals from substitute Nicke Kabamba and Omar Sowunmi were enough to seal the three points and maintain Bromley’s unbeaten start to the season.

Woodman said: “You wont turn up every week and have things your own way and I said to the team at half-time that if you can’t win through quality, you win by sheer will and you find a way.

“We know what we are good at and we get balls into the box a lot because we know how to exploit those moments.”

Bromley broke the deadlock 16 minutes from time when substitute Kabamba pounced on the rebound after Harrogate goalkeeper James Belshaw had saved brilliantly from Kyle Cameron.

Sowunmi made the game safe six minutes later when his bullet header from Mitchell Pinnock’s free-kick gave Belshaw no chance.

Woodman expected such quality from Pinnock when he brought him to the club in the summer.

He added: “I pushed the chairman hard to get Mitchell Pinnock into the football club because of what he can deliver when we get him into forward positions and he showed that both times with the set piece deliveries.

“He will be absolutely critical to what we achieve this season. I will keep demanding more from this squad because I know that we can achieve something special.”

Harrogate manager Simon Weaver bemoaned his side’s defending from set-pieces as they fell to a second successive defeat having started the league campaign with a four-game unbeaten run.

“There were positives today up to a point, but we were too relaxed in the final third,” he said.

“We know how physical they are but we went into our shells a bit in the second half when we needed to produce the same performance as the first half.

“Let’s call it as it was, we lost to two set pieces and were bullied at both of them. We needed to be better in those situations.

“It hurts because we watched at length what Bromley do but we still fell into the trap. I want us to be better than what we are right now and it’s about how I elevate our team to no longer be a plucky side in this league.”
