Cauley Woodrow scored his first goal in nearly three months as Wycombe defeated Wigan 2-0 at Adams Park.

It was the perfect start for the Chairboys as they were awarded a penalty inside the opening 60 seconds.

Junior Quitirna, who was making his first league start in two games, was pulled back by Callum Wright, and referee Paul Howard pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Caolan Boyd-Munce, who fired home beyond Sam Tickle to give Wycombe the lead.

It was his fourth in all competitions this season, and his second against the ex-Premier League side.

Despite going a goal ahead, it was Wigan that bossed the ball for the opening 45 minutes, with Fraser Murray, Christian Saydee and Joe Taylor all going close.

The second period saw Will Norris get forced into his first save, as he pushed away a fierce Taylor strike, while Tickle was on hand to thwart Woodrow and Fred Onyedinma.

The game was then settled with 18 minutes remaining, when the forward headed home from close range.

His fifth goal for the Chairboys ended a 13-game goal drought for the former Fulham striker.
