Port Vale boss Darren Moore was delighted with the bravery his side showed as they came out on top away at Blackpool to progress into the second round of the League Cup.

Substitute Mo Faal’s header 15 minutes from time was enough to give Vale the win.

Moore said: “We were plucky, determined, gritty and we showed a real resilience which is something that you need coming away to places like this.

“Blackpool found it very hard to break us down and penetrate our defence and that is down to everybody as a collective getting back and getting their bodies behind the ball.

“We always feel we have goals in the team so when that chance got created for Mo (Faal) we had every faith we’d take it and get our reward.”

Blackpool manager Steve Bruce felt there were some positives to take for his side despite having now lost their first three matches in all competitions.

He said: “I thought we were better than at the weekend, not that that was too hard. There were certainly positives.

“It was good to get Blocko (Tom Bloxham) back out there and those who needed minutes got them. I felt we saw real flashes of quality from Emil (Hansson) too which is pleasing.

“I felt we probably did enough to win the game but ultimately we’ve been done with a set play and that is really frustrating.

“I’ve no doubt we will get much better as time goes on. We’ve changed a lot of personnel and they need time to get used to the club and the way we play but we will be just fine.”
