Dean Brennan made no apology for going long as Barnet picked up their first win back in Sky Bet League Two.
With a woeful game at Swindon running out of steam, Emmanuel Osadabe gobbled up a calamitous backwards header from Swindon captain Will Wright in the 85th minute by volleying in at the far post.
And in the 10th minute of stoppage time Lee Ndlovu latched onto a long ball and fed Dennis Adeniran to sweep home.
Brennan said: “I just thought tonight we have to show something different.
“The other games we’ve dominated possession and we tried to use our phases and our philosophy to play through teams.
“Tonight we came here, it’s a little bit breezy, and we know all these teams like to tackle you, so we tried to put it in behind them and be physical with them. And it worked.”
And Brennan said he never doubted he had the players to do well in the division.
He said: “We’ve got good depth in our squad. People keep contacting me all the time, agents asking, ‘do you want players?’.
“After three games they keep looking at the table. But I know we’ve got the capability in this group to affect the level, and we showed that tonight.”
Brennan was delighted with the strength of character his players showed after three losses.
He said: “After we’ve won a lot of football matches in the last two years to go and lose the way we did in the first few games of the season has been hurtful.
“So how we defended and how we put our bodies on the line and the sacrifices we made and the courage we showed was excellent.”
Town had made the early running with Darren Oldaker going close with a curler after Cieran Slicker made a hash of a backpass.
Slicker then found himself stranded with Aaron Drinan firing from an acute angle which the keeper just about clawed away.
The Bees went close from Ollie Hawkins’ firm far-post header but Connor Ripley made the save.
Callum Stead should have opened the scoring when sent clear through but he fired straight at Ripley. After the break Town failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to Ryan Glover whose feeble shot was easily gathered.
But a late surge from the Bees handed them the win.
Robins boss Ian Holloway said: “I can’t recall any one of my players playing to the level they can do so it’s bitterly disappointing. But well done to Barnet.”
He said he spotted Town were below par in training the day before but was unable to stop the rot.
He added: “We got knocked off the ball in the end. That’s unacceptable for me, it’s a bad day at the office. We got what we deserved.”
