Fermin Lopez scored a crucial goal and received a red card in less than 20 minutes on the pitch as Barcelona beat Sevilla 4-1 to keep the pressure on LaLiga’s top two.

The sides were level at half-time after Robert Lewandowski’s 19th goal of the season was swiftly nullified by Ruben Vargas, leaving Hansi Flick to summon Fermin from the bench at the break.

He headed the visitors back into the lead barely a minute after coming on, but was sent off in the 62nd minute when he lunged dangerously at Djibril Sow with studs showing.

By then Raphinha’s skilful 20-yard strike had already given Barcelona a two-goal buffer, with Eric Garcia’s close-range header adding the gloss in stoppage time.

Real Sociedad ended their three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Espanyol, with Sheraldo Becker opening the scoring after just 38 seconds.

Javi Puado equalised from the penalty spot early in second half, but Brais Mendez grabbed the winner six minutes from time.

Mauro Arambarri’s first-half penalty was enough to give Getafe a valuable 1-0 win away at relegation rivals Alaves, who remain in the bottom three while Getafe climbed to 14th in the table.

Valencia are also still in the relegation places but just a point from safety following a second win in succession, Cristhian Mosquera and Mouctar Diakhaby scoring in the first half of a 2-0 win over Leganes.

Napoli missed out on the chance to stretch their lead at the top of Serie A to six points as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Udinese.

Scott McTominay headed the home side in front in the 37th minute, but Jurgen Ekkelenkamp equalised just three minutes later with a swerving shot into the far corner.

Florinel Coman scored just seconds into his Cagliari debut to help his new side move clear of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Parma.

An own goal from Alessandro Vogliacco had gifted Cagliari the lead but there was nothing fortunate about Coman’s thumping drive in the 70th minute, the on-loan forward having replaced Mattia Felici moments earlier.

Giovanni Leoni pulled one back for the visitors 12 minutes from time but they were unable to find an equalizer.

Pedro scored twice as Lazio thrashed bottom side Monza 5-1, with Valentin Castellanos, Adam Marusic and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru also on target for the home side.

Stefano Sensi’s late penalty was no consolation for Monza, who remain eight points from safety.

Paulo Dybala’s 57th-minute penalty gave Roma a 1-0 win at Venezia, while Lecce and Bologna played out a 0-0 draw.

In the Bundesliga, 10-man RB Leipzig ended their four-game winless run with a 2-0 victory over St Pauli thanks to goals from Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons before Willi Orban was sent off for a professional foul.

The league’s bottom two sides played out a 2-2 draw with David Zec’s 50th-minute equaliser securing a point for Holstein Kiel after Myron Boadu’s quickfire brace had put Bochum ahead.
