Fiorentina striker Moise Kean has been cleared to return to competitive action after recovering from a severe head injury.

The 25-year-old Italy international collapsed on the pitch during Fiorentina’s Serie A defeat at Hellas Verona on February 23 and was taken to hospital after being carried off on a stretcher.

Kean had taken a knee to the face during an accidental second-half collision with Pawel Dawidowicz and although he returned to the pitch after treatment, he passed out a short time later and initially appeared unresponsive.

Fiorentina said in a statement on Monday morning: “ACF Fiorentina announces that this morning the footballer Moise Kean underwent the scheduled clinical and instrumental tests following the head injury that occurred during the Hellas Verona-Fiorentina Championship match.

“Given the positive outcome of the examinations carried out, the player can resume regular competitive activity.”

Kean was released from hospital a day after the collision, with concussion tests coming back as negative.

The former Paris St Germain and Juventus forward made 32 Premier League appearances for Everton, scoring two goals, during the 2019/20 season.
