Forest Green moved to the top of the National League after registering a fourth successive victory by beating struggling Gateshead 3-1 at The New Lawn.

First-half goals from Jili Buyabu, Temi Babalola and Jayden Clarke helped Robbie Savage’s dominant side condemn the Heed to a sixth game without a win in the division.

Buyabu reacted quickest after Clarke’s effort was parried by visiting goalkeeper Tiernan Brooks in the 12th minute before Babalola headed in Nick Haughton’s cross 13 minutes later.

Clarke made it three just before half-time with a cool finish when he was sent through one-on-one, while Jacob Butterfield replied with a long-range strike five minutes into stoppage time.
