Forest Green Rovers retained top spot in the Enterprise National League after holding on for a 1-0 win over Hartlepool.

Kairo Mitchell’s 23rd-minute effort proved decisive as the hosts maintained their unbeaten start to the season with their sixth win from their opening eight games.

Rovers were on top from the start with Pools keeper Harvey Cartwright twice forced into action to deny Nick Haughton.

After Mitchell’s opener the home side continued to press with Abraham Kanu heading onto the bar and Cartwright in action again to deny Mitchell.

But Rovers had keeper Luke McNicholas to thank for preserving the points as he saved from Besart Topalloj just after the break before denying Danny Johnson who found himself clean through with 10 minutes left.
