Fred Onyedinma scored twice as Wycombe edged out Northampton 2-1 at Sixfields.

Onyedinma’s early strike was cancelled out by Jon Guthrie but his second-half winner took the Chairboys up to ninth in League One, while Northampton dropped into the relegation zone.

Nesta Guinness-Walker’s long-range piledriver had goalkeeper Will Norris flapping early on, but it was Wycombe who struck first in the 17th minute when Onyedinma latched onto Dan Casey’s long throw and slotted past Ross Fitzsimons.

Anders Hagelskjaer’s header was then cleared off the line while Norris denied Kyle Edwards at the other end, before Northampton levelled with nine minutes of the first half left. Guthrie headed home after Dean Campbell’s cross was flicked on by Tom Eaves.

Sam Hoskins sent a header against the crossbar shortly after the restart, but Onyedinma restored Wycombe’s lead by converting Caolan Boyd-Munce’s superb cross after 64 minutes.

Eaves saw an equaliser ruled out for offside and Wycombe managed the game well to secure just a second away win of the season.
