Bradford boss Graham Alexander believes his promotion-chasing side’s 2-1 defeat at Luton will be “a game we’ll look back on and rue”.
The Hatters opened the scoring after 39 minutes through Jake Richards, before Shayden Morris doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half.
Bradford pulled a goal back through Stephen Humphrys’ stoppage-time strike, but they left empty-handed.
Alexander said: “I think it was a game of opportunities – they took theirs and we didn’t take ours when I thought we should have.
“We started both halves really well. The first goal came from us being a little disconnected, that’s where they found the space, but it was still a great finish from distance.
“Then, second half we were so on top in the first period.
“We turned the ball over in the middle and they scored on the counter. We still should defend that better, I believe, and we had a lot of opportunities after that to get a goal back which would then build more pressure.
“The players always give their all, but the goal was too late and we just couldn’t find that killer instinct. I think it’s a game we’ll look back on and rue as it’s at least a point we deserved from that game.”
Jenson Metcalfe sliced over for the Bantams in the first half before Luton came on strong, Jordan Clark hitting the crossbar and then Town moving ahead when Richards found the bottom corner.
After the break, Morris was sent away by Clark to sidefoot the ball beyond Sam Walker as there were chances at both ends, Ethan Wheatley missing a one-on-one while Walker made good saves from Isaiah Jones and Clark.
Josh Keeley did superbly well to prevent Humphrys from pulling one back, but the substitute eventually managed to from Antoni Sarcevic’s pass, although it was not enough.
Hatters boss Jack Wilshere said: “I think we can still do better in moments, but I thought for spells that was the most complete we’ve been on a difficult pitch.
“Of course we want the clean sheet and I think we deserved the clean sheet with how we defended, but they make it difficult Bradford, they’ve done it all season.
“We switched off at the end and made it difficult, so we have to manage the game better…we knew they were going to apply more pressure and you have to be brave when you regain the ball to combine with someone and then attack the spaces behind.
“We did that with the goal, so really happy, but I would like the clean sheet as well.”
