Ian Holloway took issue with sections of Swindon’s fans even as a 2-1 win at Chesterfield took them second in League Two.
Finley Munroe and Joe Snowdon scored for Swindon either side of John Fleck’s goal for the hosts. Munroe was sent off late on after receiving two yellow cards.
Holloway said: “I thought we looked like my team, we pressed, we ran, we looked like we wanted to get stuck in.
“So, well done today. Tuck the points in the bag. Off we go.
“I feel for (Chesterfield), could have been a draw but we managed to nick it.”
Town trail leaders Walsall by just a point but Holloway was frustrated by barbs aimed in his direction by some fans and urged others not to get carried away.
He said: “If a performance like that doesn’t energise fans, then I’m not sure what would.
“I’m sorry for the last 15 years. That ain’t my fault. And let’s see if we can be part of something that we can grow and keep going. Because if you don’t want to, don’t come.
“I’m sick of it, honestly. I am absolutely sick of it. The away fans have been fantastic from start to finish. Sometimes at home, it’s just, honestly…
“I thought my name was something else, starting with an ‘F’. I mean, that’s wrong, isn’t it? It’s my own fans. Do me a favour, just jog on.
“We ain’t nothing until we make ourselves something. And I need some help with that.
“Well done to our fans today. But stop singing we’re top of the league. Because we ain’t, are we? We’re nowhere near it. We need to give ourselves a chance to have a sprint to the line.”
Lee Bonis had several chances to score for Chesterfield, who failed to force an equaliser despite plenty of possession and manager Paul Cook felt it was a game they should not have lost.
He said: “You know, our first-half performance was probably a little bit Mansfield-like. We were excellent. And I really enjoyed watching them.
“We don’t start the second half. Every first opportunity in a game, teams seem to score on our ground. It’s just the way football is.
“We could have gone in the top three tonight, I think, with a win. We’re nine unbeaten going into a game, we’ve lost our first game in ten, and it feels like a hammer blow defeat. Let’s have it right.
“It was a really good game in League Two, I’ve got to be honest, I thought it was a really good competitive football match.
“Should we have lost? In my opinion, no, but they end up conceding a couple of big chances as well when we’re chasing the game. It’s not how I like to see us, I want to see us go on and win games.”
