Jacob Wakeling’s stoppage-time effort helped Solihull turn the form book on its head with a dramatic 1-0 victory at York in the National League.

York were sixth ahead of kick-off and eager to claim another win but struggled to break down James Quinn’s lowly side, who finished with 10-men but travelled home with three points after Wakeling’s 95th-minute goal.

Solihull goalkeeper Laurie Walker produced a fine early save to deny Mark Kitching before he thwarted Alex Hunt.

It remained goalless until half-time, but York continued to push after the break and Joe Felix struck the crossbar.

A delay when one of the goal nets needed to be fixed contributed to seven minutes of stoppage time and it was Solihull who secured the points when Wakeling slotted home.

Dan Creaney was initially shown a red card following the celebrations before it was chalked off due to him not being on a yellow card, but the already-cautioned Ben Worman did receive his marching orders and yet Solihull held on.
