Stevenage maintained their perfect start to the League One season as two late goals from in-form Jamie Reid saw them come from behind to secure a 2-1 win away at Port Vale.

Lorent Tolaj’s brilliantly-worked first-half opener had put Vale into the lead until the 88th minute, before Reid scored his fourth and fifth goals of the campaign to snatch victory for the visitors.

Stevenage started the match confidently but it was Vale who broke the deadlock after 36 minutes as Tolaj beat goalkeeper Filip Marschall to Jordan Shipley’s pass into the box before getting to the byline, cutting back inside and firing home.

Tolaj had a great opportunity to double the score shortly after the break, but he was denied by an excellent save from Marschall.

Down at the other end, centre-back Charlie Goode had a good chance to equalise but he sent a free-kick delivery from debutant Phoenix Patterson over the crossbar.

Marschall made another good save from Tolaj to keep Stevenage within striking distance of their opponents.

And it ultimately proved crucial as Reid produced two superb finishes at the death to clinch maximum points.
