Former Barnsley striker John McAtee returned to haunt his old side with a late equaliser as Bolton took a point home from a 1-1 League One draw at Oakwell.
The hosts, who were reduced to 10 men after 52 minutes, clung on to secure a point.
After a goalless first half, it took just two minutes of the second for David McGoldrick to give Barnsley the lead.
Captain Luca Connell expertly played through the 37-year-old on the left and he made no mistake, firing the ball in past Teddy Sharman-Lowe in the Bolton goal.
The Trotters almost equalised three minutes later as Eoin Toal headed against the post from a Thierry Gale cross.
Vimal Yoganathan was sent off in the 52nd minute, as he picked up a second yellow card for bringing down Josh Dacres-Cogley in the middle of the pitch after he had been booked in the first half following a scuffle with Mason Burstow.
Bolton made the extra man count in the 86th minute as ex-Barnsley man McAtee scored from close range to level the game.
McAtee could have won it in the sixth minute of added time but headed wide of Murphy Cooper’s goal.
