A Jordan Roberts diving header 10 minutes from time sent Stevenage into the top two of League One with a 2-1 win at home to Exeter.
Roberts met a cross from fellow substitute Phoenix Patterson to break the stalemate between the two teams.
Harvey White had given Stevenage the lead after five minutes, bending a free-kick over the wall and into the top corner.
But they never pressed home that advantage, even if Dan Kemp had a goal chalked off for offside, and were punished after 27 minutes when a pass from Pierce Sweeney turned the Boro defence.
It allowed Ilmari Niskanen to slide a cross into Josh Magennis, who had a simple tap-in.
Magennis almost put Exeter ahead on the stroke of half-time after a scramble, and Exeter had the best opening at the start of the second period, with Jayden Wareham skewing his shot wide.
Both sides had moments after that which should have brought a winner but it was Roberts who made sure of the points.
