Luton eased some of the pressure on manager Matt Bloomfield by beating Doncaster 1-0 in the Sky Bet League One contest at Kenilworth Road.

Town went close in the 12th minute when Lamine Fanne’s volley was shovelled away by keeper Ian Lawlor.

Millenic Alli was wide from 25 yards and Fanne tested Lawlor again, before the hosts made the decisive breakthrough in the 40th minute when George Saville’s free-kick was glanced home by the head of Kal Naismith.

The Hatters had a great chance to double their lead on the stroke of half time, when Wells was clipped in the box by Jamie Sterry, only for Lawlor to brilliantly save the striker’s penalty.

After the break, Doncaster’s Luke Molyneux flashed an attempt across the six-yard box and with 20 minutes left they came close again when breaking quickly, but substitute Toyosi Olusanya’s touch was too heavy, allowing Luton keeper Josh Keeley to claim.

The Town stopper also denied Molyneux, who fired wide at the back post in stoppage time.
