Kallum Cesay’s late tap-in earned Salford a 3-2 win over Swindon as they leapfrogged their opponents to go second in Sky Bet League Two.

Jorge Grant opened his Salford account in style after four minutes when he fired a spectacular dipping effort from range into the top corner.

The hosts kept up the early pressure and doubled their advantage after 16 minutes when Kadeem Harris took a ball from Daniel Udoh and steered home.

Ollie Palmer drew goalkeeper Matty Young into a smart reaction save as the visitors gained a foothold.

In torrential rain, Ben Woodburn missed a great chance to add a third Salford goal before half-time as he miscued a shot wide from Harris’ floated cross.

Swindon, who began the day as leaders, were much improved after the break and halved the deficit as Aaron Drinan powered home a header after 54 minutes.

Jamie Knight-Lebel scrambled the ball home from a corner as the Wiltshire side restored parity with seven minutes of normal time left on the clock.

But in a breathless match, there would be one last twist as Salford snatched a winner in the first minute of added-time when Cesay prodded home from close range after Connor Ripley had kept Jay Bird’s header out.
