Boss Karl Robinson admitted Salford are “good value for money” following their 4-3 comeback triumph over Colchester at the Peninsula Stadium.

Luke Garbutt’s sweet left-footed strike in the second minute of stoppage time from Fabio Borini’s pass sealed a thrilling victory for the Ammies.

After Salford’s Kadeem Harris had cancelled out Harry Anderson’s opener, quickfire goals from Ellis Iandolo and Arthur Read put the visitors 3-1 ahead early in the second half.

But Ade Oluwo pulled one back and Borini equalised with a 75th-minute penalty before Garbutt won it for the hosts.

Robinson said: “We’re so lucky to do this job. I think my job is the only one I wouldn’t want anyone to take!

“I’m so lucky to work with some wonderful people and the way my players conduct is superb and we are a good team.

“On the back of some really difficult moments, we have managed to stand up as a group of people and accept the challenge.

“I love goals and I love energy and football is about excitement, football is about enjoying it, football is about everything I grew up as a kid watching.

“I want my team to epitomize what people want to see and I think you see that.

“If you live in the area, we’re certainly good value for money!

“Winning games is important and I think some of the way we play is on the edge but don’t forget the players we have out injured.”

Colchester boss Danny Cowley could not hide his disappointment.

He said: “It hurts a lot not to win when you’re 3-1 up at 60 minutes, for sure.

“But this is why we love the game because you’re never quite sure what comes next.

“We were so good for 60 minutes and we go 3-1 up against a very, very good team.

“We did brilliantly to that point but, sometimes, games just change on moments.

“We knew on a difficult pitch – which we’re not complaining about because we had a difficult pitch last year – that we can’t take too many risks in our own half and we can’t give too many fouls away.

“The only way they were going to score was by transition or through good quality in the box, as they have Jorge Grant and Luke Garbutt who are two of the best deliverers in the league.

“The game changed when we were 3-1 up and gave a silly foul away.”
