Lee Bell praised Crewe’s players for the resilience they showed in fighting back to secure a draw in a six-goal thriller against Chesterfield.
But Bell admitted he was disappointed the Railwaymen did not claim maximum points after twice coming from behind to level in the clash between two of League Two’s promotion hopefuls.
Chesterfield looked to be well on their way after goals from James Berry and Lee Bonis stunned the Mornflake Stadium.
But Bell’s men were back on level terms shortly after the restart when Calum Agius headed home to add to an Emre Tezgel penalty.
They needed to dig deep again after Dilan Markanday restored the Spireites’ lead, with centre-half James Connolly heading an equaliser from a corner.
“It was an exciting game with a lot of end-to-end play and we should have won the game with the clear opportunities we had,” said Bell.
“I was really pleased that the players showed resilience and determination to get back into the game. I’ve got belief in the players that they can produce the type of comeback they did.
“There were some really good goals, we tried to hurt them and I’ll definitely be watching this one back and picking out the bones of it tonight.
“We showed great team spirit, but we don’t want to keep drawing games as that was our Achilles heel last season – we want to be winning games.”
Chesterfield first-team coach Gary Roberts said: “The game was a lot more open than we’d have liked. I thought we took control the game at 3-3 and our subs were good, impacting the game. We were pushing on and we went for a win.
“It was the same for Crewe, we both went for it and it was probably a fair result.
“We want to work on controlling games but at times we didn’t and Crewe had 22 shots, which sums it up. It was an entertaining game for fans, but not perhaps for coaches and managers.
“We want to get James Berry in those areas as when he does he’s a really special player. He deserved his goal and his work-rate has really gone up.”
