Lincoln boss Michael Skubala praised his team for making their dominance count in a 3-1 Carabao Cup win at Harrogate just 12 months after being dumped out of the competition by the same opponents.
Skubala felt the Imps had been wasteful in last season’s first-round clash at Sincil Bank, but was delighted with his team’s ruthless display in North Yorkshire.
He said: “We got done 2-1 by Harrogate last season after dominating the game and I didn’t want that to happen again. This time, after we had settled 10 minutes in, we took complete control again, but went on to score some good goals.
“There were moments of real quality and we could have scored more the way the ball was whizzing across their goal, but I thought Rob Street was electric all night and we all know he’s capable of that.”
Street was joined on the scoresheet by Jack Moylan and Freddie Draper, with Ellis Taylor grabbing a consolation for the Sulphurites in stoppage time.
Home boss Simon Weaver defended his decision to make seven changes to his starting line-up, but admitted he was left a little frustrated that the team succumbed to Lincoln’s dead-ball threat.
“It was important to rest a few legs and also to make sure everyone feels valued because the Carabao Cup first round is a big game and we backed the lads who played to do well and I think they did,” he said.
“It was just disappointing that we got done on two set-pieces for the first two goals because we knew they were a threat in that respect and had worked on that for all of yesterday’s session.”
