James Edmondson’s stunning extra-time strike helped seal Macclesfield’s spot in the FA Cup third round after a 3-1 victory over 10-man Slough in an all non-league clash at Arbour Park.

Macclesfield took a 68th-minute lead through Daniel Elliott’s penalty after D’Mani Mellor was hauled down in the area by Kiki Oshilaja, who was given his marching orders for a second yellow card.

Despite being a man light, National League South side Slough drew level with four minutes left thanks to a spot-kick of their own, with Wiktor Makovsky slotting home from 12 yards after Harvey Walker was upended in the box.

But three minutes into the additional 30, Edmondson curled into the top corner from a long way out before Regan Griffiths scored deep into added time at the end of the second period as National League North Macclesfield moved into the third round for the first time since reforming in 2020.
