Marcus Forss scored twice on his full league debut for Bolton as they ended 11 years of pain with a 4-1 League One win against neighbours Wigan.

Since their last home league victory over Latics in November 2014, Bolton had failed to win any of the next four games, losing the last three by a 10-0 aggregate.

But Thierry Gale’s first third-tier goal after 15 minutes set Steven Schumacher’s side on their way to an impressive third win of the campaign.

Gale then provided the assist for Middlesbrough loanee Forss to open his Trotters account five minutes later.

Bolton’s afternoon improved further when fellow striker Mason Burstow, on loan from Hull, struck a superb low shot to claim his fifth goal of the season after 42 minutes.

Five minutes after the re-start, Forss punished a dreadful Morgan Fox headed back-pass to claim his second.

Paul Mullin’s fourth goal since his summer loan switch from Wrexham was hardly a consolation for the visitors in front of a bumper attendance of 25,565.
