Max Clark’s second-half header ensured the points were shared as Gillingham came from behind in an eventful 1-1 draw against Cambridge at Priestfield.

But the Gills have still not won at home for three months, their last victory coming against Notts County on September 13.

Cambridge took an early lead courtesy of Louis Appere and the visitors looked comfortable in the opening 45 minutes, but the Gills battled back and saw Robbie McKenzie’s penalty saved by Jake Eastwood before Clark converted the resulting corner.

Appere gambled on James Gibbons winning a high ball towards the back post in the 10th minute and, when it was sent back into the danger area, the forward was well-placed to tap in beyond Jake Turner.

Cambridge nearly added a second just short of the hour when a loose pass was pounced on by James Brophy. He charged towards the penalty area but saw his left footed effort deflected wide.

The home side won a penalty when Armani Little was brought down, but McKenzie’s spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Eastwood.

However, the resulting corner was sent in by Bradley Dack and Clark guided his header home from six yards.
