Micah Mbick’s first ever league goal helped Colchester end Bristol Rovers’ four-match winning streak after a 1-1 draw at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester went close early on when Kyreece Lisbie capitalised on Alfie Kilgour’s uncertainty just inside the Rovers half before bursting towards goal and firing in a shot which forced a decent save from goalkeeper Luke Southwood.

The hosts almost went ahead midway through the first half when Teddy Bishop’s clever turn and low shot in the area from Josh Powell’s pass forced Southwood to push the ball away for a corner.

Rovers took a 40th-minute lead rather against the run of play when Fabrizio Cavegn finished clinically from inside the box, following Alfie Chang’s fine through pass.

Lisbie fired straight at Southwood early in the second half before Colchester equalised in the 52nd minute through Mbick, who converted from close range, after Jack Payne had escaped the Rovers defence and picked him out.

Colchester pressed for a winner but the points were shared.
