Collin Andeng-Ndi came to Southend’s rescue as the Shrimpers were forced to hang on for a 1-1 draw against Hartlepool in the Enterprise National League.

Andeng-Ndi saved brilliantly to deny Alex Reid on the hour mark then produced more heroics to stop a Sam Folarin header with 10 minutes remaining at Roots Hall.

The hosts made a furious start and were in front within two minutes when Hartlepool’s Tom Parkes turned Harry Boyes’ left-wing cross into his own net.

Boyes and Leon Chambers-Parillon came close to extending Southend’s lead but Hartlepool grew into the game and came close through Reid.

The visitors were rewarded after 66 minutes when Nathan Sheron poked home a deflected shot after a goalmouth scramble, and Hartlepool had better chances to win it.
