Nuno Espirito Santo keen for talks with Nottingham Forest owner after rift

Nuno Espirito Santo hopes to clear the air with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis in talks during the international break.

Forest boss Nuno’s future was reported to have been in doubt last week and he revealed before his side’s draw at Crystal Palace that there had been a breakdown in their relationship.

Nuno said before Sunday’s home Premier League game against West Ham that the pair had spoken over the phone and that he thinks he will still be in charge when league action resumes at Arsenal on September 13.

“Yes, I think so. I don’t know how to answer that, but I think so,” said the Portuguese, who believes any issues can be resolved.

“We didn’t have a chance this week. It was a tough week for both of us with a lot of work and the president is currently in Monaco (for the Europa League draw). We have to talk.

“These kinds of things should be done in the right moment, and the right moment is after the game. Now we are focused on West Ham, then we have the international break and I think that is the right moment.

“Things are OK. We are working very hard to compete, this is what is really important. The talk will happen after the game.

“I’m totally relaxed in that sense. We need to have a talk about the future of the club, how we should address after the transfer market and all these things – what is the commitment to the club.

“Me and the president want the same thing. We want the best for Forest, that’s for sure.”

Forest, meanwhile, will face Malmo in a repeat of their 1979 European Cup final triumph during their Europa League campaign this season after Friday’s draw was made in Monaco.

Nuno’s side will play Malmo at the City Ground and also face home ties against Porto, Ferencvaros and Midtjylland, with away trips to Real Betis, Braga, Sturm Graz and Utrecht.

“First of all, it was nice to be in the draw and see together, as a team, which opponents we could have,” Nuno said.

“It is a good draw. Now we need to see when matches will happen. That will be the main thing for knowing when to recover for Premier League games.

“We have tough opponents but the City Ground it will be huge for us.”
