Partick Thistle moved through to the quarter-finals of the Premier Sports Cup with a solid 2-0 victory over fellow Championship side Ayr United at Firhill.

The home side dominated the first half with Aidan Fitzpatrick hitting the post and then having a goal ruled out for offside but Mark Wilson’s men scored twice just before the break.

In the 41st minute Logan Chalmers’ corner was headed in by Dan O’Reilly and, in added time, Chalmers fired in a powerful left-footed strike from 20 yards.

The Somerset Park men picked up after the break but failed to claw back Thistle’s lead.
