Bottom club Port Vale beat Leyton Orient 1-0 to help boost their survival chances in League One.

Vale got off to a brilliant start as Kyle John headed home from the centre of the box following a corner on two minutes to give them an early lead.

Orient then created their first attempt on goal when Tom James’ right-footed effort was blocked after a cross by Theo Archibald on 20 minutes.

The hosts missed a golden chance to equalise when Ollie O’Neill’s weak right-footed shot was saved by Joe Gauci after a headed pass by Josh Koroma after 60 minutes.

Port Vale then closed up shop and held on to pick up a vital victory but they still remain 10 points from safety.
