Reading clinched only their second League One victory of the season when they edged past Leyton Orient 2-1 at the SCL Stadium.

In-form Jack Marriott gave the Royals a 1-0 half-time lead, Idris El Mizouni levelled for Orient soon after the interval but Liam Fraser struck the winner 11 minutes from time.

Orient had started the stronger, with Jack Moorhouse forcing an agile save from Reading goalkeeper Joel Pereira.

But it was the Royals who broke the deadlock in the 21st minute following a quick break.

Charlie Savage set up Marriott, whose half-struck effort on the turn somehow evaded scrambling Orient keeper Tommy Simkin for the striker’s third goal in as many games in all competitions.

Reading twice almost doubled their lead from headers, Simkin saving superbly from Fraser while Derrick Williams’ effort was blocked on the goalline.

O’s head coach Richie Wellens grew increasingly frustrated and was booked for his protests by referee Ollie Yates.

But his side drew level just three minutes into the second period, when Pereira failed to get enough distance on a headed clearance and El Mizouni cut in from the left to score with a low shot.

Reading swiftly upped the ante and, after poor Orient defensive work, Fraser drilled home from close range in the 79th minute.
