Scott Robinson fired a late winner on his debut for Arbroath in a 3-2 win at Raith that lifted his side closer to the top two in the Scottish Championship.

Robinson, who joined from Hamilton on an 18-month contract on Friday, stepped off the bench in the second half and clinched his new side a fifth league win on the road this season.

The Red Lichties let slip a 2-0 interval lead at Stark’s Park after first-half goals from Gavin Reilly and Dapo Mebude were cancelled out by Raith pair Scott Brown and Josh Mullin.

But Robinson, a second-half replacement for Mebude, fired an 81st-minute winner for the visitors, converting Harry Cochrane’s pass following a swift counter-attack.

Arbroath have moved five points clear of fourth-placed Ayr and to within four of second-placed Partick.

Ayr were held 1-1 at Somerset Park by Airdrieonians in Saturday’s only other Scottish Championship fixture, with Jamie Murphy’s first-half penalty cancelled out by the visitors’ Cole McKinnon before the break.

Leaders St Johnstone’s game at Queen’s Park and Greenock Morton’s home match against Dunfermline were both postponed.
