Europa League places will be up for grabs as Manchester United host West Ham on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim’s side saw off Athletic Bilbao to book a date with Tottenham in the final of Europe’s second-tier club competition later this month.

The showpiece occasion gives United chance to salvage something tangible – silverware and Champions League qualification – from a dismal campaign.

They have laboured throughout the season and remain in the lower reaches of the Premier League as they head into this weekend’s encounter with the Hammers at Old Trafford.

Europe is now the key priority but, while Amorim has suggested there may be certain players who are susceptible to knocks he may need to protect, he does not intend to rest and rotate for the sake of it.

United head coach Amorim said: “I expect some players we have some doubts that they will recover – they will push forward a little bit and we have to manage that and not take the risk and to have big issues.

“But, of course, they will fight for the places. They will be really excited and that is a good thing, not just for the final but also to prepare for the games of the Premier League with something in our mind that we can win. It is going to be massive.”

Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui are among those Amorim is treating with caution while Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee remain out.

After Sunday’s game, United travel to Chelsea next Friday before taking on Spurs in the final on May 21.

They wrap up their campaign at home to Aston Villa in their final Premier League game on May 25.
