Wigan wing-back Fraser Murray delighted boss Ryan Lowe with a late equaliser in a 1-1 League One draw at windswept Plymouth.

In-form Murray latched on to a defence-splitting Christian Saydee pass to hammer home past Argyle keeper Conor Hazard.

Argyle had taken the lead when Swiss striker Lorent Tolaj – who hit the bar with a first-time volley in the 16th minute – won and cheekily converted a 70th-minute penalty, calmly chipping the ball over diving Wigan goalkeeper Sam Tickle.

Lowe said: “Fraser’s a good finisher. I think he’s our leading goal scorer now. He’s on five goals. He’s a fantastic lad, a Scot, my first signing. He’s tenacious and a good footballer.

“I thought we were fantastic with and without the ball today. It’s been a different week in terms of the build-up to this.

“We knew that Argyle have turned a little bit of a corner. We knew how good they were going to be. I think we nullified their strengths.

“The decision for the penalty I am disappointed in it. I think the whole crowd were disappointed in some decisions.

“It is what it is, you can’t do anything about it, you can’t dwell on it now.

“We got a fantastic goal. Which we said (at half time) we’d have a bit more of the ball in the second half.

“We knew we’d be able to play a little bit more because the wind caused carnage for both teams.

“I would definitely have been aggrieved if we didn’t get a point.

Plymouth boss Tom Cleverley praised the goalscoring prowess of Lorent Tolaj.

Cleverley said: “Tolly (Lorent Tolaj) has been in that position a lot more times than I have and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

“He’s got a great goalscoring record and that makes him unpredictable as a penalty taker.

“Would I have done that on the windiest day of the year? I’m not sure I would but I must say it was executed very well.

“It is a disappointing point. First of all, I don’t think it’s an unfair point.

“I don’t think we did enough to win the football match. I didn’t think either team did.

“It looked like it had nil-nil written all over it. It becomes a disappointing point when we get ahead.

“I didn’t think Wigan did anything all afternoon to break us down, maybe got in our box a couple of times directly.

“But when you are ahead in those games they are the type of games after you say ‘I love them scruffy one-nils’.

“That’s what that should have been. It was a massively preventable goal we have conceded.

“It’s not the only reason we have not won the game today. I didn’t think we took the game to them enough. It’s a fair point but a disappointing one.”
