Scott Lindsey believes it is impossible for him to work any harder than he already is after MK Dons’ poor form continued with a 2-1 defeat at Fleetwood.

Goals from Ryan Broom and the returning Shaun Rooney saw off the visitors, who halved the deficit late on through substitute Tommi O’Reilly.

The defeat was the Dons’ sixth in eight matches, leaving them 12th in League Two, eight points off the play-off spots.

Lindsey said: “I’m really disappointed. For the first 30 minutes I felt we controlled the game but without really hurting them.

“We then go 1-0 down and our mentality starts to shift and we then start to feel a bit sorry for ourselves. We ultimately then don’t wake up until they score a second.

“We looked like we came alive all of a sudden but it is too little too late by that time. We have to gain more character.

“It is normal to sometimes go 1-0 down in games so we have to be braver and keep coming forward and playing our game and work ourselves back into matches. We need to use that to create more.

“We changed the way we defend set-pieces because the players didn’t feel right with what we were doing so we change it and then we concede again so we are going to have to have a look at that again this week.

“It is about being accountable out there and being men and being brave and stepping forward and working hard for the club and the fans who have travelled a long way to see us today and we have let them down.

“It is my job to pull this around and I believe that I can. I don’t think I can work any harder than I am doing at the moment as I think that would be impossible but I feel that we can on the pitch and we have to be doing more.”

Fleetwood boss Pete Wild was delighted to see his team make it back-to-back wins.

He said: “I was really pleased (with the win) especially after the shift we put in away at Salford on Saturday which was a great performance considering we had not played for a while so to back that up with a result on a wet pitch tonight in what was a completely different game to the one on Saturday was really really pleasing.

“Scott’s teams are going to work hard and play through you, we know that, but we restricted them.

“I don’t remember Jay (Lynch) having to make any real saves and we were the ones who scored two goals and we created five or six real opportunities.

“We sat in and created a block then tried to hit them on the counter and obviously at the moment set-pieces are our friend too so it was good to score a goal from another one of those.”
