Scunthorpe moved to within two points of the top of the National League with a 3-1 win at home to bottom side Morecambe.

Six minutes before the interval Callum Roberts cut in from the wing to score with a finish across Archie Mair and inside the far post.

The Shrimps goalkeeper was no closer to Danny Whitehall’s long-range free-kick to give him his seventh goal in 10 games and the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead.

Good build-up play saw Ben Tollitt tap home Jake Cain’s cross to reduce the deficit midway through the second half but Tyrell Sellars-Fleming restored the two-goal cushion in the 77th minute to move Scunthorpe up to fourth.
