Shrewsbury’s return to the fourth tier of English football resulted in a 0-0 stalemate at home to Bromley.

John Marquis headed wide for the hosts early on after Luca Hoole drove down the line and stood up an inviting cross to the back post.

George Nurse sent in a long throw to the back post just after the 15th minute and Anthony Scully found space in the box, but his effort flew over the crossbar.

At the other end, Corey Whitely won the ball high just before the 20-minute mark and tried a shot from outside the box, but Toby Savin managed to save.

Shrewsbury had the first opportunity of the second half with just under 20 minutes remaining when Hoole did brilliantly to break down the flank and find Nurse at the back post, but his effort cruised over the bar.

Hoole was in the thick of the action again late on when he got his head to a lobbed pass, but his effort was easily claimed by Grant Smith.
