Steven Sessegnon had a day to forget as Leyton Orient secured their first win of the League One campaign by beating Wigan 2-0.

Sessegnon scored an own goal and was sent off for the Latics as they slipped to a first defeat of the season.

Wigan suffered a blow after just five minutes when James Carragher hobbled off, with Jon Mellish his replacement.

The hosts went ahead in the 18th minute with the first effort from either side as Sessegnon chested the ball into his own net after a Josh Koroma cross.

Aaron Connolly should have controlled his effort much better on the half-hour mark after a good linkup with Ollie O’Neill.

Orient doubled their lead on the hour mark when Koroma picked up a through-ball and fired straight past the outstretched Sam Tickle.

It was a bleak afternoon for Wigan, and for Sessegnon who saw red late on for a professional foul.

Substitute Joe White nearly added a third for Orient but Tickle pulled off a great save from his free-kick.
