Chem Campbell scored a superb curling goal as Stevenage climbed to fifth in Sky Bet League One with a 3-1 win at Stockport.

The hosts went close to opening the scoring after five minutes when Joseph Olowu’s header from a Ben Osborn free-kick was cleared off the line by covering defender Dan Sweeney.

Stevenage forward Jamie Reid drilled a shot against the base of a post seven minutes later as the lively start to the contest continued.

The visitors took the lead midway through an entertaining first half when winger Campbell cut in from the left and rifled a breathtaking effort into the top corner.

Stevenage doubled their lead after 52 minutes when Reid got across his marker and turned home Luther Wildin’s low cross.

Stockport halved the deficit 10 minutes later when Kyle Wootton headed Owen Dodgson’s clipped cross into the bottom corner.

But their fightback lasted just three minutes as Olowu misjudged a header back to goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe and Louis Thompson intercepted to lob the stranded goalkeeper.

Wootton headed wide as the home side pressed late on, but the Boro stood firm to earn a valuable away win.
