Swindon missed out on the chance to go top of League Two after eking out the drabbest of 0-0 draws with Colchester.

While the home side’s stars showed plenty of individual skill they rarely strung together anything of note to threaten the United goal.

Ian Holloway’s side survived an early scare when a smart save from Connor Ripley denied a snap-shot from Harvey Araujo from a corner.

The Robins tried to hit back when Finley Monroe played a beautifully weighted through ball for Aaron Drinan who drove in from the left and fired at Matt Macey’s chest.

Monroe fired an inviting low ball into the box but Ollie Clarke skewed wide.

At the other end Micah Mbick blasted the wrong side of the post after Town had given the ball away.

The game briefly sparked into life in the dying minutes.

Substitute Ollie Palmer’s weighted volley seemed likely to break the stalemate but hit the post.

In added time, former Town full-back Ellis Iandolo flashed in a perfect cross but U’s sub Samson Tovide’s diving header missed the target.
