A second-half brace by substitute Tom Blackwell helped Braintree move out of the National League relegation zone with a 3-1 victory at Eastleigh.

Aaron Blair put the home side ahead, but Terrell Works levelled after 36 minutes for Braintree and Blackwell’s two goals after the break earned Steve Pitt’s men only a third win of the campaign to move them up to 19th in the table.

Eastleigh went ahead after 21 minutes when Southampton loanee Sonnie Davis picked out Blair to volley in the opener.

Braintree, who started the day occupying the final place in the bottom four, responded strongly and equalised before the break when Chay Cooper’s corner found Works to fire home.

Pitt turned to his bench to help Braintree push for all three points and substitute Blackwell produced a superb solo goal in the 78th minute before he added another in the 12th minute of stoppage time to seal a much-needed triumph.
