Bristol Rovers were denied a first League Two win of the season by Oldham captain Tom Conlon as they played out a goalless stalemate at the Memorial Stadium.
In the end, the Gas had to be content with a first point this campaign but it could have been very different had Conlon not come to the rescue to clear Alfie Kilgour’s header off the line on the hour mark.
The West Country side had struggled to create clear-cut chances with Macauley Southam-Hales denied by Mathew Hudson in the first half before Isaac Hutchinson headed wide as the hosts turned up the pressure.
Micky Mellon’s Oldham had their moments in attack and Kane Drummond fired the ball over following Ryan Woods’ free-kick.
It was a frustrating night for Rovers manager Darrell Clarke, who was booked late on as the agonising wait to celebrate a victory – for both sides – continued following his return to the club following his December 2018 exit.
Clarke was left holding his head in his hands in stoppage-time when Jack Sparkes’ 20-yard free-kick thundered off Hudson’s crossbar.
