Truro City’s 900-mile round trip to Brunton Park proved in vain as an early Luke Armstrong double sealed a 3-0 win for Carlisle in the Enterprise National League.

The Cornish side – who face an even longer journey to Gateshead next month – fell behind after just 10 minutes when Armstrong tapped home the opener from close range.

Two minutes later the tiny travelling band of Truro fans must have feared the worst as Armstrong grabbed his second after the visitors failed to clear a loose ball.

The increasingly influential Regan Linney grabbed a stunning third on the hour mark to all-but seal a second straight win for Mark Hughes’ side.

Truro, who had set out on their epic trek on the back of two games unbeaten, offered little and had keeper Aidan Stone to thank for saving well from Harvey Macadam late on.
