Trent Alexander-Arnold looks set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer after announcing he would leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Alexander-Arnold confirmed the decision on his social media channels, eight days after helping his hometown club win a record-equalling 20th top-flight title.

Monday’s Premier League action saw Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest draw 1-1 at Selhurst Park, while Arsenal failed to make certain of second place in the Women’s Super League following a 4-2 defeat at Brighton.

Trent Alexander-Arnold said he was looking forward to a new challenge after taking the “hardest decision” of his life to leave Liverpool.

The 26-year-old, who has been at the club since he was six and helped them win the Premier League title this season, is out of contract at the end of June and is expected to join Real Madrid.

“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” Alexander-Arnold said.

“This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life. This decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.

“I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club and I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here.”

Forest enjoy stroke of luck to pinch point at Palace

Nottingham Forest grabbed another point towards their European push as Murillo’s lucky strike secured a 1-1 Premier League draw at Crystal Palace.

Murillo might not have known much about his goal as he entertained a Neco Williams shot into the net, but it could prove vital during the run-in.

Forest’s top-five bid may no longer be in their hands, but with distinctly-winnable games against Leicester and West Ham to come, all eyes could yet be on a final-day shootout with Chelsea for a Champions League spot.

Palace, playing their first match since beating Aston Villa to reach the FA Cup final, had taken the lead through Eberechi Eze’s penalty.

Stuttering Arsenal stunned at Brighton

Brighton left Arsenal shell-shocked once again as they ran out 4-2 winners in their final Women’s Super League home game of the season.

Gunners boss Renee Slegers had been expecting a response from a 5-2 defeat by Aston Villa on Wednesday and made six changes to her side.

Brighton, though, gave their fans a memorable send-off at Broadfield Stadium, with Fran Kirby firing in the opening goal after 16 minutes.

Although Caitlin Foord soon equalised, Jelena Cankovic struck either side of the break and Kiko Seike added a fourth before Arsenal scored a late consolation through Mariona Caldentey in stoppage-time.

What’s on today?

Inter Milan take on Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final with the score level at 3-3 following a scintillating first leg.

Marcus Thuram’s opener after 30 seconds is the fastest goal ever scored at this stage of the competition, with Denzel Dumfries then doubling Inter’s lead with an acrobatic scissor-kick.

Lamine Yamal halved the deficit and Ferran Torres drew Barcelona level before Dumfries scored his second goal of the game to edge Inter back in front.

However, Raphinha rifled in a long-range strike via the crossbar just a minute later and it will take something special for the second leg to match up to the first.
