Eighteen-year-old substitute Harrison Bettoni scored a brace on his league debut as Wigan came from behind to win 2-1 at AFC Wimbledon.
Alistair Smith put the hosts ahead, but Bettoni’s double turned the match on its head to earn Wigan their first away win in the league this season.
Wigan wasted early chances as Fraser Murray and Dara Costelloe both missed when well placed.
Wimbledon nearly opened the scoring when Ryan Johnson headed wide from Steve Seddon’s free-kick.
A tight second half in heavy rain saw few chances until the Dons scored in the 70th minute. Joe Lewis flicked on a long ball for Smith, who fired home via the crossbar.
Wigan equalised seven minutes later. Having only just come off the bench, Bettoni struck a perfectly placed free-kick to score with his first touch in the EFL.
Bettoni then grabbed the winner in the 87th minute as he received Paul Mullin’s pass and drilled a shot beyond goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.
